Just a quick render test using my new copy of VRay. Fast SS2 Shader with a 3 Point studio lighting setup with some tweaking. AO Map and lighting rendered in passes for post production.

looks almost real..... awesome! can't tell if its at first glance but looking close and reading your description, i am slightly hard pressed to believe you that this is rendered.... awesome!
